About us
At Gordon Street Pre-School, we honour the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play. We acknowledge that Country is central to all learning and that children are part of, and connected to, the living world around them. We walk alongside First Nations perspectives with deep respect, embedding culture, storytelling, and connection to Country throughout every part of our program so children grow with understanding, care, and responsibility for land, community, and each other.
We place the child at the heart of our thinking, valuing childhood as a time to be heard, respected, and supported as learning unfolds through relationships, curiosity, and play. Our program is grounded in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLF), supporting children’s learning across all areas of development through meaningful, play-based experiences that respond to their ideas, interests, and strengths.
We believe children are capable, curious, and full of potential. They are supported to explore, question, take risks, and make sense of their world through open-ended play and hands-on experiences that encourage imagination, problem-solving, and discovery.
We are committed to creating a strong sense of safety and belonging for every child. Children’s wellbeing is always our priority, and we have a zero-tolerance approach to child harm. We uphold Child Safe Standards in every aspect of our practice, ensuring children feel safe, respected, and empowered to use their voice. Children are encouraged to understand their rights, trust their feelings, and know that they will be listened to.
We recognise families as the most important people in children’s lives. Strong, respectful partnerships with families are at the heart of our practice, and we value working together to support each child’s learning and wellbeing.
We are deeply committed to connection with Country and caring for the environment. Children are supported to develop respect for nature and an understanding of the interrelationship between land, animals, people, and the changing seasons.
Sustainability is embedded in everyday practice as children learn through direct experience in the natural world.
At Gordon Street Pre-School we celebrate diversity. We are committed to the inclusion of all children in all ways of learning, embracing their strengths, abilities, culture, gender and family structure. Gordon Street Pre-School is committed to the principles of cultural safety and inclusion of Aboriginal children, children belonging to a culturally and/or linguistically diverse background, and children with disability, and we recognise that these principles support the safety of all children.
