Marni Wightman (Director, Nominated Supervisor, Educational Leader and Teacher of the Rosella Group)
I believe early childhood experiences set the foundation for a love of learning and shape the way a child sees the world in which they live in. I love that saying – ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. This is so true. At Gordon St we value strong partnerships with families and the community to give children the best possible start to their education. When children feel safe, secure, supported and valued, learning comes so naturally. Providing a rich culturally sensitive educational play-based program is so important for children to help foster their development and discover their own interests, abilities and limitations. I believe in embedding First Peoples perspectives into the program and empowering children to develop an appreciation of living and learning with nature. It is important for children to feel a sense of belonging, build on their friendships and express themselves freely.

Tahli Howard (Rosella Educator)
After having my son Kye, I started researching Early Childhood courses and enrolled in my Diploma. After working in the industry I had really found my passion in working with children and allowing them to grow. I love all things creative and enjoy allowing the children to fully express themselves through different mediums. I find that in allowing children to be the decision makers through their education, they are more engaged and excited to explore and learn new things. The kindergarten age is such a beautiful age range to experience.
I love this age, as the kids are just starting to experiment with who they are, their likes and dislikes and their values. It's amazing to be able to nurture this and watch them grow into confident small humans going into primary school.
This is my fourth year at Gordon Street and I couldn't be more excited to become a part of the family and build new relationships with all the children this year. Hope to meet you all very soon!

Nichole (Casual Educator)
This is my first year at Gordon Street Preschool, and it has been an incredible experience to join such a supportive and collaborative team. I believe that being part of a supportive team positively influences children’s well-being and sense of belonging. By sharing knowledge and working together within a respectful community, we create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and connected. This, in turn, encourages them to show care and kindness towards their peers.
I am continually fascinated by the way children learn and inspired by their imagination and curiosity. Children’s play offers meaningful insight into how they interpret the world. It reflects their stories, identities, and perspectives. Play connects children to their environment, their cultural identity, to others, and to new ways of knowing, doing, and being. As Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Through imaginative play, children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, explore emotions and social relationships, and build empathy. Play also invites exploration of the natural world. We investigate the ground, trees, birds, air, and bees. We smell herbs together, and one child once delightedly shared, “This reminds me of my mother’s roast chicken.” These moments highlight the richness of children’s connections and experiences.
I believe all children are capable learners with unique strengths, and I strive to support them in developing confidence, self-worth, and a lifelong love of learning.

Michelle Williams (Teacher of the Rainbow Lorikeet Group)
I joined Gordon Street Preschool in 2020 as the 3 year old group educator. I have over 15 years experience as an educator both in Melbourne and also in London and I have a special interest in working with children with additional needs. I currently also work with Yooralla. I live in Beaumaris with my husband and 3 children.
It is an absolute privilege to work with young children, to share in their education journey and to work in partnership with their families. Each child is an individual and my play based program is designed to nurture each child and ensure they feel safe and supported in the kindergarten environment. My objective is to guide them into the next stage of development with growing confidence in themselves and an enthusiasm for continued life long learning.
I love to see the children’s curiosity and sense of wonder about the world around them. In the 3 year old program we love to have fun with the children, following their interests, singing and dancing and enjoying their introduction into the kindergarten years.

Olivia Wightman (Rainbow Lorikeet Lunch Cover Educator)
Having been part of the Gordon Street Community with my daughter, it is an honour to be back here as part of the education team.
I am passionate about early education and providing secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships with all children.
I believe if a child feels safe and nurtured the possibilities for fun, play and learning are endless. Three year olds are a constant source of delight and wonder and each is unique in their own way. What a privilege it is to watch them grow and to provide an inspiring environment in which they thrive.

Helen Woodruff (Rainbow Lorikeet Educator)
It is an absolute privilege to join the wonderful team at Gordon Street Pre-School and be part of your children’s learning journey within our newly renovated and refurbished indoor/outdoor play space.
Excitement and engagement are at the core of my teaching approach. I strive to make every experience captivating and interactive for our young learners. Whether through hands-on activities, creative and dramatic play, or interactive storytelling, I aim to keep children fully engaged and eager to participate in the learning process. I place great importance on being a consistent and a positive role model. It is essential that they see me as someone who is approachable, caring, and supportive. By embodying these qualities, I aim to create a safe and encouraging environment where children feel free to express themselves, ask questions, and seek guidance. This is all made possible by the connections and partnerships that extend beyond our Centre, fostering a love for learning and a sense of belonging among young learners and their families.
Building strong partnerships with families is crucial for the success of children. I aim to create authentic and meaningful relationships with parents and caregivers. This collaboration between home and Kindergarten is essential to ensure that children receive the best possible support, both academically and emotionally.
When children are excited to come to Kindergarten each day and their families are actively involved in their education, it creates a nurturing community of learners.

Marie Francios
I have spent twenty years working in the early childhood field, with the past three years at Gordon Street Preschool. Here, I provide lunch care relief for the Rosellas and occasionally assist with relief work across all groups. I believe that young children learn best through play and discovery, engaging their senses and interacting with materials, peers, and adults. I also value inquiry-based learning, which involves stages such as engagement (playing, wondering, noticing), investigation (reflecting), exploration (asking questions), and communication (sharing ideas and findings).
I have a particular passion for art and craft activities, which allow children to develop new skills while expressing their creativity. Additionally, I enjoy sensory learning activities, that foster a sense of calm.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you.

Victoria Brown
It is such a pleasure to have joined the amazing team at Gordon Street Pre-School! As a local to Beaumaris, I love living and working in my own community.
In my time outside of work, I enjoy representing Australia and Victoria in karate, and heading away on camping adventures with my husband, two children and two dogs.
What a great age kindergarten is! Children are finding their voices, who they are and how to engage with others in a way they never have before. I believe children learn best through a sense of belonging and with strong relationships.
I strive to provide an environment for the children, which is secure, welcoming and warm where children can feel comfortable and confident to enter. Allowing your children to be aware of their agency scaffolds their innate curiosity towards their own learning.
How exciting it is to watch our Kindergarteners grow in a space as beautiful as Gordon Street!
